Macon County Court Docket Searches
Macon County gives you no free anonymous search box on its court website. So plan for a different route. Alabama runs remote trial-court lookups through Just One Look for one case, or through a paid Alacourt subscription for repeated docket research. Both are state services. Expect a fee or an account either way. Free access exists too: walk in and use the public terminals at the Macon County Circuit Clerk. When you already know the court, the division, the filing year, and the case number, bring those details along.
Names invite mix-ups. A Macon County docket search can return people with similar names, so check the case style, division, filing year, case number, status, and disposition date before trusting a match. Municipal citations and probate estates sit with other offices.
- Identify Circuit, District, Probate, or municipal court from the citation, pleading, or notice.
- Use the full case number and division in the official state service when available.
- Confirm the returned header, then read the case action summary from oldest to newest.
- Check for a later continuance, reset, amended notice, or signed order.
- Call the correct clerk when attendance, payment, or certification is at stake.
Three Macon Docket Systems
Alabama runs three systems with three separate jobs. Per Alabama's e-filing explanation, AlaFile is the filing route. Alacourt is the read-only case-information product, and AlacourtPlus handles internal processing. Just One Look sells a single case, and it rides on Alacourt.
The AlaFile application makes clear that a filer login is not an anonymous docket search.
Filers with accounts submit paperwork there, while readers pull Macon County court records through Just One Look, an Alacourt subscription, or the courthouse terminal.
| System | Purpose | Access role |
|---|---|---|
| Just One Look | One trial-court case | Paid case access |
| Alacourt | Case detail and images | Subscription |
| AlaFile | Submit filings | Registered filers |
| Clerk terminal | Inspect docket and documents | Free onsite |
Court Dockets: What They Show
The case action summary is Alabama's chronological index. Its header ties the record to Macon County, the court and division, filing year, case number, style, filing date, and current status. Party blocks spell out each person's role. Entries then trace the life of the case. Expect pleadings, service, notices, settings, continuances, orders, disposition, enforcement, and appeals. Money fields may follow too, showing costs, fines, payments, or a balance when public.
| Case locator | County, division, case year, and number identify the file. |
|---|---|
| Case style | The formal caption names the parties and roles. |
| Entries | Date, generic title, specific description, filer, and possible image link. |
| Settings | Notice or order may state type, date, time, judge, and place. |
| Disposition | The result should be read with the signed order or judgment. |
A docket is only the index. The full file lives behind it. A linked image is the filed document itself, and a certified copy is a separate clerk-issued record. When a short entry title hides the judge's full ruling, that difference matters.
Macon Docket Titles and Descriptions
Alabama's electronic-filing policy makes a filer pick a generic Title and then type a specific Description. Both land in the case action summary. A title like "Motion" often says less than the words beside it, so read the date, title, description, filing party, and image together.
- Setting
- A scheduled event that may later be reset.
- Continuance
- A court-authorized delay, not a dismissal.
- Disposition
- The result at that court level.
- Certified copy
- A copy authenticated by the clerk.
A charge is not a conviction, and a disposed label does not prove every duty has ended. Open the signed outcome before you conclude anything.
Macon County Courts and Their Dockets
The docket follows the court, not just the building. Macon Circuit Court takes felony, general civil, domestic, and eligible lower-court appeals, while District Court holds misdemeanors, early felony activity, state traffic, district civil, and small claims. Probate and municipal files live with separate custodians.
| Court | Docket Covers | Where to Search |
|---|---|---|
| Macon Circuit Court | Felony, general civil, domestic, appeals | Alacourt or Circuit Clerk |
| Macon District Court | Misdemeanor, preliminary felony, state traffic, small claims | Alacourt or Circuit Clerk |
| Macon Probate Court | Estates, guardianships, conservatorships | Probate Office |
| Municipal courts | City ordinance and municipal traffic | Named city court |
A felony can carry both a District and a Circuit number as it moves from preliminary action to indictment. Appeals do the same. An appeal opens a new higher-court record rather than erasing the lower one, so keep both case numbers.
Macon Dockets at the Justice Center
The official Macon County court site lists the Courthouse and Justice Center at 101 East Rosa Parks Avenue in Tuskegee. Circuit and District records center there. It is not, however, a free county docket database.
Doors are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except holidays. The clerk answers at (334) 724-2614. Call ahead for an old, restricted, or specially routed file.
The courthouse dates to 1905. It burned in 1985, was restored, and got a new name in 2015. That history explains why Macon County court records split between physical custody and electronic imaging. It does not prove any particular file was lost.
Court Dates and Settings in Macon County
Macon County posts no standalone anonymous daily calendar. Start with the newest signed order or official notice. Then check it against the latest case action entries. Useful words to scan for include notice, order setting, hearing, trial, arraignment, continuance, reset, and amended. Remember that an old date stays in the history after a setting moves.
Confirm the case number, division, judge, date, time, place, and event type. The clerk can route questions at (334) 724-2614. Tuskegee publishes a recurring Thursday session, but that does not prove your matter is set that day. For conflicting entries, see the Macon County court schedule process.
Macon County Docket Volume
The Alabama Administrative Office of Courts counted 344 Circuit filings and 470 Circuit dispositions in fiscal 2023. District Court was busier, with 4,733 filings and 4,886 dispositions. Because courts close cases filed in earlier years, dispositions can outpace new filings.
These figures measure annual flow, not unique people or pending cases. Choosing the right division is therefore vital.
Census QuickFacts puts that workload in context: Macon County had 19,532 residents at the 2020 Census.
A compact population does not merge state, probate, and municipal record systems.
Docket Access Under Alabama Law
Judicial rules, statutes, sealing orders, and court custody govern Alabama court records. They are not treated exactly like every executive-agency request under the Alabama Open Records Act. Electronic-filing policy does give free public viewing. Available electronic dockets and documents can be viewed in the clerk's office during regular hours. Remote access, though, may require payment.
Key Rules:
Rule of Judicial Administration 30 sets copying and certification charges.
Rule of Civil Procedure 5.1 limits sensitive identifiers in public filings.
Electronic Filing Policies preserve free onsite viewing and regulate confidential data.
Alabama Code §38-9-6(e) protects adult-protective-services records.
A missing online result proves nothing. It does not mean a case never existed, was dismissed, or was expunged. Juvenile cases, adult protective matters, sealed files, and protected images can all be restricted, so ask the custodian whether a public index or a redacted copy exists.
When a Macon Docket Stays Hidden
Three limits get mixed up easily. Redaction trims sensitive details from a filing that stays public. Sealing locks a document or entry behind a court order. Confidentiality covers a whole category of cases by rule or statute. One example is Alabama Rule of Civil Procedure 5.1. That rule generally lets public civil filings show only the last four digits of Social Security, taxpayer-identification, and financial-account numbers, subject to its exceptions. The rest of the file stays open.
Adult in Need of Protective Services matters show how far confidentiality can reach. Alabama Code §38-9-6(e) bars the public from inspecting those records. AlaFile documentation says their case details and images never appear in Alacourt. Juvenile files and cases sealed by order call for special handling too. One wrinkle remains. A docket entry can stay visible even when the image behind it is withheld.
No result is not a conclusion: check spelling, county, division, and year, then ask the Circuit Clerk whether the matter is confidential or held by another court. Do not publish private identifiers while seeking help.
The clerk cannot give legal advice or promise that a requester may open a restricted file. Expect to show identification, proof of relationship, or a court motion in some situations. Ask plainly what public index information or redacted material can lawfully be released, and which authority controls any denial.
Macon Civil and Traffic Dockets
The Macon District Civil division explains small claims, service, hardship requests, and judgment steps.
A civil judgment itself stays in District Court. Record a certificate of judgment through Probate Court, though, and a second record now exists under a different custodian. The Macon traffic instructions set out a critical local rule on that side of the docket.
That printed date on a District Court ticket is an appearance date only. It is not a trial date. Someone contesting the charge shows up then to request trial.
How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records
The Macon County Circuit Clerk keeps the docket records for Circuit and District proceedings. The office preserves pleadings, processes funds, and prepares subpoenas. It also issues hearing notices, supports jury functions, and runs civil, criminal, domestic, child-support, traffic, juvenile, and warrant divisions. Probate and city records sit elsewhere. The official Circuit Clerk profile describes electronic imaging and Just One Look.
Ask for inspection, a plain copy, or a certified copy by exact case and document. For mail requests, confirm the total, payment form, delivery directions, and return-envelope needs first.

Macon Docket Copies and Fees
Free viewing does not mean free copying. Rule 30 sets five dollars for copies through twenty pages, fifty cents for each later page, and five dollars more for clerk certification. Confirm the current rule and the Macon total before paying. A remote portal charge produces no certified copy.
| Service | Framework | Confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Onsite electronic viewing | No charge | Available file |
| Copies through 20 pages | $5.00 | Rule 30 total |
| Each later page | $0.50 | Page count |
| Certification | $5.00 additional | Exact document |
Older material may live in paper files, bound volumes, microfilm, or an archive. Give the clerk the approximate year, style, division, and any known number.
Macon Jury Notices and Dockets
The clerk also supports jury administration. The official jury information page posts the local juror instructions.
A jury summons is not a case setting. Jurors follow the summons and jury instructions. Parties and witnesses instead follow the newest case notice or order, and a call makes sense if reporting instructions may have changed.
City-by-City Court Dockets in Macon County
Under the Census geography used here, Macon County counts four incorporated places. Tuskegee publishes municipal court details and Notasulga offers a payment portal, while Shorter and Franklin post no official public docket database, so confirm directly with each city. A payment page is not a full case history. Read the issuing court on the citation first.
Tuskegee Court Records
9,395 residents in 2020 · Municipal court meets Thursdays; verify each setting.
Notasulga Court Records
About 900 town residents · Dual-county geography makes the named court essential.
Shorter Court Records
About 380 town residents · Confirm municipal or District assignment.
Franklin Court Records
About 590 town residents · Town Hall is the first routing contact.
Felonies and general civil matters belong in District or Circuit Court. A municipal appeal can generate a Circuit record. Keep the city citation number and any later county number together.
Map and Directions to the Judge Aubrey Ford Jr. Justice Center
Circuit and District Court records for Macon County are kept at the Judge Aubrey Ford Jr. Justice Center, 101 East Rosa Parks Avenue, in Tuskegee. The building is the county's 1905 Richardsonian Romanesque courthouse, restored after an August 1985 fire and renamed for Judge Ford in January 2015. The Circuit Clerk's counter here is the free public-viewing point for the electronic docket and filed documents during office hours.

Security screening, parking, and device rules were not published on the official Macon pages, so call (334) 724-2614 before visiting to confirm current entry procedures. Because the courthouse has a 1985 fire in its history, ask the clerk in advance if the record you need may be an older volume that requires archived or microfilmed retrieval.
